August 22, 2018

The completely transferable, seven show, seven drink, Underground Sound Pass, aka the Love the Local Card, aka The Fall Show Pass, is now on sale.

The annual Underground Sound concert series at the Vilar Performing Arts Center is a favorite among locals, bringing a diverse group of up and coming musical talent to Beaver Creek from all over the world each fall.

This year indie rock musician Alec Ounsworth is bringing his Clap Your Hands Say Yeah project to the Vilar to kick things off on Sept. 22.

The show will continue throughout September and October into early November when it closes out with the fiddle trio Nordic Fiddlers Bloc on Nov. 5th.

The Underground Sound Pass is now priced at $125, and tickets will go on sale August 27 for individual shows in the 2018 Underground Sound series. If you're going to attend multiple shows, it's a much better deal to buy the pass.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah is the musical project of American indie rock musician Alec Ounsworth. The group was founded in 2004 and is based in Philadelphia and Brooklyn. Their debut album, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, was self-released in 2005. They are notable for achieving their initial fame and commercial success via the internet rather than through a record label. Shortly after the release of their first album, they received attention and favorable reviews from publications such as Pitchfork Media who gave the band a "Best New Music" commendation. They garnered even more press after David Bowie and David Byrne were spotted at some of the band's shows.

Internationally-acclaimed guitar virtuoso Trace Bundy must be seen, not just heard. His music is poetry in motion, using harmonics, looping, multiple capos and his unique banter and stage presence to deliver an unforgettable live concert experience. Listening to his intricate arrangements is one thing, but seeing the fan-dubbed “Acoustic Ninja” play live confounds even the most accomplished music lovers as to how one person can do all that with just two hands and ten fingers.

In the
Flamenco Quartet Project, Clinard Dance is pioneering a unique style of flamenco dance by abandoning the representational ties to the form and relying heavily on the rhythms and a sense of improvisation, in a quest for a free, spontaneous body which is able to interact and dialogue with other compositional forces. Led by an open minded spirit the ensemble seeks to engage with contemporary culture through vibrant performances that honor traditional flamenco and their shared passion for music and dance discovery. The roster of performers boasts remarkably diverse talents, including composers, arrangers, improvisers and choreographers who bring a range of cultural influences to the group, from Gypsy jazz to klezmer; flamenco and classical Arabic and Spanish art forms. The group consists of nationally and internationally renowned artists, including violinist Steve Gibons, vocalist/guitarist Marija Temo and bassist Javier Saume.

Recently crowned the “best emerging band in NYC” after their performance at the NPRWNYC Battle of the Boroughs, Addi & Jacq (armed with nothing more than vocals and a harp) have created a diverse and compelling body of music. Their songs range from delicate acoustic tunes to layered electric harp grooves. The variety in Addi & Jacq’s output can be partly attributed to their wide range of musical influences, which include everyone from Mozart to Radiohead, Rufus Wainwright to Paul Simon. While some songs buzz with quick vocals and smart rhymes, others bubble slowly with blended voices. All are grounded by skilled writing, singing, and playing.

The first track on Lo Moon's self-titled album is ever so gentle in its clarion call. Starting softly with light beats, '80s synths and the controlled vocals of lead singer Matt Lowell, it eventually erupts in a stadium-ready chorus cry of “This is it! This is it now!” For Lowell and his two main bandmates Crisanta Baker (guitar, bass, keys) and Sam Stewart (guitar), Lo Moon is it: the moment they've each individually been working towards their entire musical lives.
